Taek “Taka” Lee’s path to culinary mastery began in his native Korea, where a fascination with Japanese cuisine set him on a journey across borders and traditions. Determined to learn from the source, he moved to Japan without knowing the language, working multiple jobs while training under a master chef. There, he honed the precise knifework and disciplined techniques that continue to define his style. In the United States, Lee became a fixture of South Florida’s fine-dining scene, serving as Executive Sushi Chef at Zuma Miami and Makoto, and later as Executive Chef at Monkitail.
In 2020, Lee opened Takato at Conrad Fort Lauderdale Beach, blending the soul of his Korean heritage with the artistry of Japanese cuisine. Now in its fifth year, Takato has expanded to include Oku by Takato — an intimate, 10-seat omakase lounge led personally by Lee. As Co-Owner and Executive Chef, he crafts experiences that are both rooted in tradition and elevated by global influence, earning a reputation for pushing the boundaries of modern Asian fusion while honoring its essence.
