David Burke is one of America’s most influential chefs, celebrated for his boundless creativity, technical mastery, and unmistakable sense of play. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Burke became Executive Chef of New York City’s legendary River Café at just 26, earning a coveted three-star review from The New York Times. He remains the only American to receive the prestigious Meilleurs Ouvriers de France Diplôme d’Honneur and has been recognized with the Nippon Award for Excellence, the Robert Mondavi Award of Excellence, and induction into the James Beard Foundation’s Who’s Who of Food & Beverage in America. His inventive spirit has also led to culinary patents, including his pioneering Himalayan salt dry-aging process for beef.
Today, Burke leads David Burke Hospitality Management, overseeing a portfolio of acclaimed restaurants and culinary ventures across the country while continuing to push the boundaries of modern American cuisine. A restaurateur, author, educator, and philanthropist, he is equally committed to mentoring the next generation of chefs through scholarships, charitable initiatives, and culinary education. In 2025, Burke became the first chef inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame, and in 2026 he will be inducted into the Culinary Institute of America’s Hall of Fame—a fitting recognition for a career defined by innovation, generosity, and an enduring passion for the craft.
